Too much Egg-Nog!
Santa's got a slight lean going here, almost as if he's a bit tipsy tonight. Perhaps Rudolph was spiking the Egg-Nog again.
Chiseled from a 2.25" x 2" block of basswood, this carving stands almost 12.5" tall. His dark old world Christmas red robe has a vibrant white trim up the front that is dotted with carved black buttons. Although you can't see it in the photograph, his hat hangs 1/3rd the way down his back and is capped by a white pompom. The picture does not do justice to his warm, soft, aged off-antique white beard and the great aging technique makes this hand carved Santa one you will cherish.
This is a Santa you just want to hold in your hands over - the mark of a good wood carving!
By the way - this Santa has a secret! With close to 600 numbered Santa carvings - this is the first time Tom has double numbered a Santa. He was originally numbered 584 - but luckily when he was being added to the site - this very page had been used for carving #584! Realizing how the mistake was made, Tom removed the information and made the change. You can still see a bit of the original mistake if you look closely at the bottom.
