Shimmering Santa
This Santa was carved out of a 2" x 2" block of basswood and stands just over 7.75" tall.
I wanted to do something other than the traditional red Santas that I've been putting on the site. Dierdre has the house decorated to the hilt for Christmas, and as I sat at the table looking at the Santa, the glitter on an antique green glass Christmas ornament caught my eye.
Santa's coat is painted with a soft shimmering metallic Christmas green and has soft white trim . His metallic gold gloves sparkle in keeping with his outfit and do their best to keep his little hands warm. The beard has textured strokes from a scalloped chisel, with hints of aging in every sweep. The picture doesn't do this Santa justice.
The antiquing applied softens the tones while adding additional depth to the simple lines of this Santa carving. You will want to place him where soft light will bounce off him - and watch as he captures your eye with a sparkle of Christmas cheer!
He will definitely draw attention in any Santa collection.
By the way - he is the last Santa carved in 2007 - next year we start with 600!
