Antique Rolling Pin Santa #2009-01

This is a cool piece for the Santa collector.  Last year, Tom was given an antique pastry pin to carve.  He ended up doing several of them and the carvings were very popular.  Over this year, he came across some additional pastry and rolling pins which he collected to carve.

This is the first, and possibly only pin he will get carved this year.  A heavy wood (some are maple), this pin has seen some use in the kitchen.  Now it is time to retire it to a beautiful decoration. 

Hand carved by chisel, this Rolling Pin Santa is about 17" long.  The handles show the original paint, worn from years of use.  The wood of the pin was extremely dry, so you can see some grain tear in the antiquing on the beard.  Tom decided to leave that character rather than sand it smooth or texture it with grooves.

The trim of the hat and the low hanging pom pom feature a pin hole texture that adds real character to the work.  You'll find people want to pick it up and run their fingers along it.
